I enjoyed this moderately paced mystery starring a female detective in 1920s UK. It did surprise me when partway through the book it flashed back for quite a lengthy period of time to inform us of Maisie's adolescence and early adulthood, but I do now understand why this information was needed. It impacted the pacing of the mystery, but this is the start of a long series, and I'm glad I got to know Maisie better through it.
