The Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lupton
2.0
It was an interesting book. Mother and child are looking for her husband in Alaska. He's in a remote village that apparently has had an accident and is dead. But she is not convinced. At first she plans to take a plane but when she's not able to fly there, she decides to get a ride from a trucker. When the trucker falls ill, she decides to take/steal his truck and drive there herself. And this in bad weather, which in Alaska means cold icy weather which can kill you in many ways.
So far so good. But the biggest problem I found with the story was that it was told from 3 perspectives. It was told in third person, from the child's point of view and also in flashbacks from the husband and wife relationship. This was very distracting and annoying and I would sometimes flit quickly over the change of narratives to get to the next part.
The author did a pretty good job of keeping up the suspense and I did my best to keep up the suspense as well by skipping over parts. It's basically like if you were watching a thriller on TV and every 10 minutes the movie would skip to some other story for 10 minutes. I would have enjoyed the book more if the book had stuck to one point of view and built on it. I got this book free as a review copy.
