Ragnarok: The End of the Gods
by A.S. Byatt
I didn't entirely get on with this, and I find it hard to put my finger on why.
The book introduced some interesting themes, but I think the character of the thin child did not fully enable the narrative to critically engage with them. There were also some questions which, reading this in 2025, given the WWII setting, felt notable by their absence.
There was lots to like about this but I found it quite a frustrating reading experience. I think that may have been as much about what I was wanting and expecting from this book, however, than the book itself.
