The Nightmare Affair
by Mindee Arnett
This book was cute to say the least. It is very much like Veronica Mars and Nancy Drew (both references in the book). However, it was VERY similar to [b:Prep School Confidential|13411546|Prep School Confidential (Prep School Confidential, #1)|Kara Taylor|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1362062511s/13411546.jpg|18668960] for me, but it had a paranormal aspect to it.
This book is about Dusty, a girl who feeds off of a substance called fictus in people's dreams. She feeds off of a guy who she went to school with previously and finds out that they are able to solve mysteries by dream seeing. This book takes place at an Academy where young Magi citizens are trained in the arts of magic.
I liked the characters. Dusty and her friends had some awesome one liners. Sure, they were a little one dimensional for my taste and their relationships weren't crazy well developed, but the plot line had me hooked. I love YA murder mysteries (which can be rare to find and good ones even rarer) so this book was awesome for me. I was surprised at the ending. I had predicted one part of it, but I was trying to figure it out as much as the characters were.
I'm kind of curious enough to continue the series, but I wouldn't be devastated if I didn't.
