From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

4.0

Despite kind of knowing what to expect from this first book in this series, I was still pleasantly surprised to see how much I enjoyed myself. This hits so many of my favorite tropes and I was giggling, yelling, smiling and groaning so many times reading this that I’d be remiss if I didn’t give this a good rating.

The breadcrumbs are there from the start and while the audience might see them, it makes sense why Poppy doesn’t. And she even admits to being blinded by the obvious. It’s easy for an outsider to point at all of the faults in someone’s life but when you’ve been indoctrinated and sheltered, I can see how she’s missed so many signs.

And yet- she’s not completely blinded. She’s not helpless and she’s strong-willed. It’s nice to read a self-aware heroine.

Are there clichés? You bet. Are they delicious? You fucking bet!

I need more!
