Goose Chase by Patrice Kindl
4.0
Fairy tale retellings are my favourite subgenre of book and this one was especially good. I already enjoy this author, and I was not disappointed in this book. The heroine and narrator has a distinct voice and a fun character that is almost dryly humorous about the unfortunate events that befall her. The prince as a supporting character is good, and has a lot of development throughout the book.
The way the narrator tells the story, in a sort of medieval/old time accent, could be very unpleasant and difficult to read in another book, but in this book it made me laugh more than once and I thought it was charming (this is all up to the reader's personal taste, though; I would understand if some readers really didn't like this style)
The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is just a personal preference of mine that romantic stories have a definitive end. They don't have to have a big wedding at the end, but I'd like to see both of them admit their feelings to each other. While it was implied, no such scene happened in this book. The romance is there if you're looking, but it's subtle and not the main focus, which could be exactly what some people are looking for.
This book was greatly entertaining. recommend
