Ripple Effect by Ki Stephens
5.0

Thank you to Ki Stephens who gave me the opportunity to read an ARC for an honest review. :)

One morning when Daisy is surfing, she finds Elio sleeping on the beach. They start becoming friends, when a sudden medical condition prompts Daisy to stay with Elio. They soon fall into a comfortable routine and start leaning on each other. As they both work on healing themselves they slowly start to develop feelings for each other. Will their young love withstand Elio’s sexwork and the past that is catching up with them?

First and foremost I want to write a formal ‚Thank you letter‘ to Ki for gracing us with yet another masterpiece. „You lean on me, I lean on you“ „YOU LEAN ON ME, I LEAN ON YOU.“ are you kidding me?? How perfect is this, I love it soooo much. ❤️

Elio is a grumpy sexworker who is trying to find his footing in life, while escaping the ghosts of his past. He finds comfort in taking walks on the beach with his faithful companion, his dog Bentley. I‘ll admit, when Elio first appeared in Spring Tide, I had mixed feelings about him, but Ki managed a 180 turn for Elio in the best possible way. He‘s become such a sweet caring young man and I loved to see his growth. I really loved to see the bond Luca and Elio developed and how he prioritises his family now. I‘m so glad he found someone who loves him for him and doesn‘t care about his past or his work. He deserves the happy ending.

Daisy is a sunshine who wants to find some parts of her old self again while mending a broken heart. She always sees the silver lining in every situation and despite her broken heart she always stays positive. It was good to see Daisy finding herself sexually. I feel like books are usually about how easily men can satisfy women so it was great to see Daisy take time to figure out what she likes (with some seriously encouraging words from Elio ;)).

I was hooked from the very first page. The book had me giggling, swooning, kicking my feet in the air and laughing. May I also add, that (thanks to my ADHD) it‘s very easy for me to guess plot lines and I‘m hardly ever surprised about certain plot twists in books (Verity - super predictable imo), but Ki had me do a double take with that little side story in the book. So hats off for being able to surprise me. I did expect a little more spicy scenes, given that Elio is a sexworker, BUT damn the ones which are in the book are loaded. The few spicy scenes were so hot, I don’t think anyone could have handled more of them.

I‘ve said it before in all my other reviews for Ki‘s books, but she is such a talented writer. Her way with words and how she brings the characters to life is mesmerising. She manages to create characters who feel so real and raw with all their struggles and demons, it‘s as if I personally know every single one of them. I loved to see the ND representation and the honest truth of how paralysing anxiety can be. 5/5 ⭐️
