House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
3.0
2.75-3. Undecided.
1. I felt this def could have been shortened by a minimum of 300 pages.
2. I felt like I was reading a less-cool version of TOG. Even parts felt too much like ACOTR
3. I really couldn’t stand Bryce. I didn’t care much about Hunt. I should have stopped reading when I realized I really couldn’t care less about Danika’s situation or details lol.
4. I have no idea what the ending meant? And I don’t think I care to read another 800 pages to find out.
5. I am so so sad I didn’t like this but what can you do?
Upsides - I’ve always loved the way Maas weaves her worlds and atmospheres. This world was a little grittier and less “ethereal” feeling but it was very interesting, although I would have liked to see more of it. I felt I spent 500 pages, at least, just walking from point A to B in the city itself.
It wasn’t so horrible I wasn’t able to finish. I did set it down for a long time after the first 75 pages. Did not think I’d pick it back up but I didn’t want to give up on it! I’m glad I didn’t so that I never question if I missed out.
