I’d like to start out by saying that I am at least as left leaning as most of the users on this site. I’ve got my credentials, and the bruises to back them up. This book, though, borders on pure leftist propaganda. It’s so pervasive that at first I thought it was a joke. All the non-sequitur virtue signaling, all the weird asides, and the pure cartoonish evil of the antagonists made this book very… flat in its depiction of the wide diversity of the human condition.

It certainly does keep you turning the pages though. Things go bad for our heroes real fast, and all of a sudden. There is a graphic rape scene that really sneaks up on you, so be aware of that if that’s a trigger.

There’s some very interesting things going on in the book, and the ending was so fascinating that I had to pick up the sequel right away. Overall, it’s a big book but worth your time if you want to read some disturbing popcorn about the end of the world.

Lessons from this book:
1. Republicans are evil
2. Technology will save us all

but also…
3. Band together to protect the vulnerable
4. Diversity is strength
