Forsaken by Kelley Armstrong

3.0

The Otherworld series may have ended with Thirteen back in 2012, but Kelley Armstrong has chosen to continue to tell these characters' stories through short fiction. This includes an annual novella from Subterranean Press. Now, with the exception of Hidden, which was really something special, I have found all of these novellas, including Forsaken, to be solid, but not must reads. They're nice for fans of the series who want to see what happens next, but unnecessary (and likely confusing) for people not famillair with the story thus far.

Forsaken focuses on Elena, who is struggling to be taken seriously as a female alpha in a world of misogynistic werewolves. Then, every parent's worse nightmare happens when one of her kids goes missing. The result is a book that starts and ends really interesting, even if there are times in the middle where it seems like there's a lot of running around, without too much happening. Elena's family goes through some big changes this novella, and I'm quite interested to see what this means for the future.

Forsaken is an all around enjoyable read for die-hard fans of the Otherworld series.
