Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

5.0

As always with translations I find myself wondering what I actually just read. How close was it really to the author's true voice and intent? That aside, I really liked this book. I liked the characters a lot, found them really interesting, and in some cases even likable. I liked the way the story unfolded. Not action packed but somehow kept moving forward. Interesting philosophical ideas, such as, Exceptional people can break the law, if they didn't, where would we be now. Plus, I love that Columbo (remember him?) seems to have gotten his investigative techniques from Porfiry - you know, those innocent, seemingly inconsequential questions that end up sinking the murderer. If you're looking to pick up a long, Russian classic, I'd recommend this one.
