Overall this book felt incredibly flat. For a book that has so much tell rather than show, I had no idea what was going on most of the time. The world building was vague so I could not conceptualise what this world was supposed to look like how it operated, how all the various islands and castles and bridges came together. Sometimes there would be a change of scene that just popped out of nowhere and it was entirely unclear how it related to the previous scene or how the characters had ended up in a situation. My most damning criticism however comes to the romance, indeed what romance. There was no heat, no sizzle, no chemistry, and absolutely no reason why TWO leading men could possibly fall for our bland, personality’less main character.
