Old Goriot
by Honoré de Balzac
This book would've been a lot more fun if it leaned a bit more into the taboo it presented.
The gay tension between Vautrin and Rastignac? The borderline insestious love Goriot had for his daughters? The constant feminization of Rastignac? All of these things were present but, to me at least, left unexplored. They left me wanting for a more scandalous novel then the one I was reading.
I know that there are a milion more Balzac novels that are about these same characthers and that if I read all of them I might get a glimpse of the scandal I long for, but honestly I doubt it's worth it.
RIP Vautrin you would've loved toxic man yaoi though
