Kiss of the Spindle by Nancy Campbell Allen

5.0

It's no secret I adore fairy tale retellings. I have a particularly soft spot for steampunk fairy tale retellings. This book got me through a couple of late night flights. I enjoyed the characters, and hope very much that Nigel Crowe will get his own novella or novel some day. He was a yummy one, maybe guilty of stealing scenes from Dr. Cooper and Captain Daniel.

I also really liked how the original fairy tale influenced the story, but didn't dictate the story. It was fun to see where/how the references appeared. Also appreciated how madam author approached the issue of consent--that wake up kiss can get problematic quickly. It was a relief that it wasn't a first kiss, also a relief that it was consensual. Also explained in a way that made sense with the original curse/fairy tale.
