What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff

4.0

I disagree with the negative reviews that this book only scares you about the thing that can go wrong with pregnancy. I did not feel that way at all. I think it gives a good overview of pregnancy and addresses all the things - good and bad - that one may experience. Why would one not want a resource to refer to if something doesn't feel right, or to know the warning signs of an issue that can be handled early? Ignorance is not bliss when trying to grow a healthy baby.

I don't know that I am a fan of the Q&A layout for the topics, but it gave enough information to feel informed about the process and to be able to research any relevant issues further. I have found most of the information to be the same or similar enough to my doctors information and advice, as well as the recent experiences of close friends who have had babies. I do not, however, recommend relying on this for breastfeeding information - buy a better more informative book on that topic.

I will say that the daily email blasts from What to Expect's website gives you the bulk of the information in a shorter and quicker format. But by reading both, I feel like I know what to expect.

Overall, it is a good idea to read this or some other pregnancy overview book of your choice when pregnant. So that you are informed enough to have an idea of what is to come an to know what questions to ask of your doctor and what topics you may want to research further.
