The Hive by Gill Hornby
3.0
Funny in parts, this is like Mean Girls but with parents with the background being St Ambrose primary school.
It was definitely something different to read... Each parent has their own perspective told and the book is set by terms and times of “drop off”, “lunch” and “pick up” and centres mainly around trying to raise money for the school.
With essentially “mean girl” queen bee Bea taking charge.
Hence “The Hive” title.
It was interesting to see how one parent, Rachel, visits her mum and she has bee hives. And talks about life cycle and the queen bee’s job. This quite cleverly contrasts with the St Ambrose clique.
