Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
4.0

I really enjoyed reading this book. As a student in a helping field, I'm always interested in books (particularly YA) that explore mental health issues. As a whole, I thought this was a lighthearted way of examining the issues related to one's experience while going through something related to their mental health. Truthfully, I wish there had been more depth, particularly telling us what the "event" was that caused Audrey's condition, perhaps her diagnosis, and I think the story might have also benefited from a more accurate portrayal of the downward lines on Audrey's jagged graph. Mental health issues, unfortunately, are not normally dealt with in such an easy manner as depicted in this book. Other reviews of the book have mentioned that her recovery seemed rather quick, and I do not disagree with that. Of course, everyone and their treatment is different, but it did seem rather abrupt near the end of this book. Overall, I would recommend this book to those interested in learning more about mental health and how to support friends or family who may be going through something of their own. The humor and characters in the book were all likeable. However, if you are looking for a more accurate depiction of some of the struggles that accompany mental health further reading through other texts can help expand that understanding.
