First of all, when I learned that this was inspired by Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter – I was like sign me up IMMEDIATELY! I enjoyed this story way more than I thought I would! I really enjoyed that this book had both a good dose of romance, but also balanced both main characters’ careers. I feel like the best way to describe this story is intimate, tender, and slow burn-y. The book was so well written that I found myself dragging at the end because I didn’t want it to end. I do feel like the ending wrapped up very quickly, but I get it, books cannot last forever. I really also enjoyed Myah’s writing style. This is my first book by her and I can’t wait to read another!
One sentence summary – After 8 years of marriage to Elliot Majors, Ella is getting a divorced finally, and gets swept into a PR relationship with a baseball “bad boy,” Miles Westbrooks that starts to become very real and more than she was expecting.
Miles Westbrook is literally the most tender and sweetest man and deserves literally the entire world. He’s such a good noodle and I loved how intentional and slowly he moved with his love towards Ella. WHAT A MAN! I loved all the growth that Ella had during the book. She was able to learn to stand on her two feet and set boundaries for probably the first time in her entire life! We love to see it! And, Elliot Majors – I hope you get all the bad things in which you deserve. You are a terrible human and I wish I could punch you in the throat because HOW DARE YOU TREAT MILES LIKE THAT especially after publicly humiliating the woman you were married to for years ?!?!?
Anyways - I’d recommend this books to folks who love a steady love story, girlies who are obsessed with baseball players, men who are fiercely defensive over the people they love and care about, and music lovers everywhere. Would 10000% recommend listening to this one - the narrator was phenomenal!
