We Can't Keep Meeting Like This by Rachel Lynn Solomon

5.0

4.5 rounded up - I've become a HUGE Rachel Lynn Solomon fan since The ex-talk came out earlier this year. To say I was excited for her newest YA release would be an understatement. Set in Seattle, this story features a second chance, opposites attract love story between Quinn and Tarek. A very jaded about love Quinn works for her family's wedding business but is feeling the weight of their expectations to join full-time after school ends and is also dealing with her OCD and anxiety. Tarek is much more of a hopeless romantic and a fan of the big gestures but when these don't go over well with Quinn things take a rocky turn. I love how well-rounded and real Solomon’s characters feel. Tarek is a Muslim boy who loves to bake but also has a history of depression. I was rooting for these two characters to overcome their differences and the ending is as sweet as one of Tarek's perfect macrons! Highly recommend this one, especially for fans of Sleepless in Seattle, books with relatable Jewish characters and strong, positive mental health representation.

Favorite quotes:
"..and sometimes the world is terrible, and love stories, they make it feel less heavy."

"I think about the times anxiety has felt like the tightest of blankets around me, one I could never fully cast off."

"...that's not what a grand gesture is about is it? It's never one big gesture, it's a series of small ways to let someone know you care about them."
