As someone who LOVED Funny Story, Book Lovers, and Happy Place, I would say this was the weakest Emily Henry I have read so far (have not picked up Beach Read yet).

(Mild spoilers ahead)

The writing is good, the story is charming, the characters are well developed, and the banter is, of course, impeccable. But this one just didn't do it for me. You're telling me these two couldn't figure out their attraction and communicate for over a DECADE? Also, I'm a sucker for the formula Henry's other books seem to follow, where there is a kiss or something early on and the attraction builds in intensity as the book progresses. These two didn't get their first kiss until about 2/3 through the book, immediately followed by the third act breakup.
Also, Alex is a painfully insecure guy (and WHY? He's hot and successful??) so I didn't find him a very appealing love interest personally.

Still, the ending was incredibly sweet, and I loved that they did eventually learn to communicate and work on themselves.

I would still certainly recommend this, but it wasn't my favorite. 90% friends, 5% lovers.
