I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
3.0

A train wreck in slow motion. McCurdy’s voice is the only way this book works. Without her sideways looks at the horrible events in her life, this would have come off as abuse porn wrapped in a memoir. Her comedy is so important to this piece. Really fascinated by the recontextualization of the media that I grew up with on “children’s television”. At the end of it all, it’s a memoir that never looks away, or really places blame. It leaves that for the audience, which, I think, is pretty masterful.
