This afternoon, I finished reading Mystic River by Dennis Lehane. Whereas, Shutter Island had more of a tricks of the mind mystery to it, this was a pure crime drama mystery. I liked how the personal lives of the three main characters were intertwined with the solving of the murder. It was very sad to think how lives change in the blink of an eye. And, to think about the assumptions we make about people and how those assumptions can impact lives. I really liked this story and about two thirds of the way in, I started to figure out who really did it. I don't know with crime fiction if you're supposed to be able to figure it out or if it's supposed to come as a complete shock. But, this book was really good and definitely a page turner.
