All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono by David Sheff

5.0

So the wait for this ebook from the library was so long that by the time it became available I had completely forgotten why I wanted to read it, and of course I hadn’t entered any reminder notes into Goodreads. So, I was surprised when I was reading the Introduction and Prologue and the author mentioned his son, Nic, and Nic’s drug problems, and singing “Beautiful Boy” to him, and then it all clicked. The author, David Sheff, who interviewed John and Yoko, is also the author of the book [b:Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction|35721089|Beautiful Boy A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction|David Sheff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1530843357l/35721089._SY75_.jpg|3099735]. I read that book in 2018 and I’m pretty sure I watched the movie with Steve Carell.

Anyway, this book contains the interview that was originally published in Playboy magazine, right before John Lennon was shot & killed.

I was never a Beatles fan so the entire interview was really interesting for me to read. I didn't even know that John had stayed home to be the "househusband" for 5 years after Sean was born. I didn't know anything about Yoko Ono other than a lot of people hate her and blame her for the breakup of the Beatles. It was interesting to hear her and John talk about that. But what I liked most was when the author, David, sat down on the floor with John and they went through every song and John told who really wrote each song and how that person came up with the idea for the song or whatever.

What's really hard to read about is all the things John was looking forward to doing in the next 40 years of his life. Sigh...
