Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

5.0

Another five star read. Shocking from me, I tend to be very picky about which books I’m willing to give a full five stars too. However, this one was entrancing. I started this one off as an audiobook and soon discovered I also had it sitting on my bookshelf - so, I flipped back and forth between listening and reading depending on the type of day I had ahead of me.

This story alternates between past and present time while gradually building up to come full circle and meet in the middle (incredibly satisfying). The book covers some difficult topics and can be hard to read at some points, but overall Paris did a great job getting the point across with any overly graphic descriptions. As a reader, you truly never knew what was going to happen next. The way it was written had me trying to get inside the heads of three different characters at once and whenever I thought I had them figured out, I was pulled in a completely different director.

The character development and overall execution was phenomenal. I really loved the main character’s younger sister, Millie. She was such a breath of fresh air during a dark and twisted main plot and often led to me laughing out loud.

I’m glad that this was the first B.A. Paris book I’ve read because it roped me in so quickly and held tight throughout. I’ve already added all of Paris’ books to my TBR and am dying to get my hands on them. 10/10 recommend this one in any format. Stay tuned for more reviews of this author, I see plenty in my future.
