Pilgrim Bell: Poems by Kaveh Akbar

1.0

This was so incredibly infuriating. Every single poem had a beautiful point to prove, an important message, something deeper to think about. That side of this book? Absolutely stunning. However, no amount of importance or beauty becomes what it’s meant to be, if the reader cannot decipher the meaning. Maybe this book was written for non-english speakers and translated (and translated poorly), but if it wasn’t— I have a really hard time believing the average english speaker could enjoy reading this. I could easily be below the threshold of the audience. Not smart enough, not worldly enough, not SOMETHING enough, but I simply do not get it. I love other Kaveh Akbar works, but this one took me forever to even get to, and I’m left with nothing after finishing it.
