I can’t even explain how much of a dumpster fire that was.

Sadly, I will be tuned in to Jacks story because I hate myself!!!

I didn’t write a complete review for Legendary because I thought my issues with both Caraval and the second book could be resolved with the third book…

I was mistaken.

Spoilers ahead and a nonsensical rant (sorry)

I haven’t read such stupid characters in my life. At first, Scarlet and Tella’s personality were compelling especially with their  background of physical abuse and abandonment. But, it was almost comedic how the author completely forgot about that element in the story. The character development was practically nonexistent. You are telling me, that Tella. The Tella who freaking died and was haunted by dying again decided, “yeah becoming an immortal would be a great idea!” Not even considering the fact that she would lose her sister in the process and that immortals literally couldn’t love. No actual character development in,

“Oh, if I had to die again it would be ok! I shouldn’t be ruled by fear.”

No, instead we get, “you know what let’s just not die at all so I can be with this man who clearly doesn’t love me because like it’s my decision(?)!”

And Scarlet, ugh. It’s just so funny how they pick and choose when to be mad and when not to be mad. Julian, the guy who lied and abandoned Scarlet multiple times, that’s completely fine, who gives a fuck about that. Anissa, the fate, who had a similar story to both Scarlet and Tessa, as soon as she “lied” to Scarlet (granted she can’t lie, she just withheld information that Scarlet never asked for) suddenly she’s the most conniving bitch and no one can trust her.

Even the villain, Gavriel, the character who had literally no real redeeming qualities about him, all of a sudden Scarlet is like mourning and crying over him? Then, the love triangle between Jacks and Legend and Tella happened which became the most tedious thing ever. We spent 99% of the book with Legend clearly not wanting to give up his immortality for love, then all of a sudden he just does? And then there is the whole “competition” thing between Nicholas and Julian which was a pretty much useless plot detail.  And when Nicholas died because the author couldn’t figure out any better way to end that mess, all the characters were like welp that sucks, anyways!

The endings to each chapter were also just awkward and out of the blue and it just felt like it was slapped together. The only somewhat redeeming factors of this book was maybe Jacks but only because he had kinda funny one-liners. Everything else, god damn good riddance.
