Cry of the Kalahari by Mark Owens, Delia Owens

4.0

It takes a certain amount of heartlessness to be a naturalist observing the life of animals without interfering in their struggles. From what I've read, Mark & Delia Owens are not heartless, although sometimes their work can be heartbreaking.

For seven years they persevered in one of the harshest environments on the planet, and for that they have my absolute respect.

Without going into details, for example, lionesses can be bitches. To borrow one of my son's phrases, they give no f---s about their cubs. On the other hand, the Owens' also discovered the communal denning practices of brown hyenas.

Sometimes this book will break your heart. Sometimes you have to put it aside, it can be that heartbreaking. But you'll never forget their story.
