Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty

4.0

The stories were astoundingly well-told. And gripping. Sometimes horrifying. Always visceral.

As a reader, I long for chronology, an ability to fit all the pieces together at the end of the narrative. To see the arc.

Don't look for that in Night of the Living Rez.

Take each story as a stand-alone piece, a glimpse into one boy/teen/man's life on the reservation. You'll gather information as you go along. But you'll never see the full picture clearly. Or at least, I never felt like I did.

But really, how often to we get the whole picture of a life (our own or anyone else's)? If we're lucky, some sort of new understanding settles in. But, I'll be honest--I can even quantify this new knowledge/feeling/realization. Something has shifted, though.

Night of the Living Rez is immersive and resonant. It's worth reckoning with.
