Make Something Up: Stories You Can't Unread
by Chuck Palahniuk
I left too many accompanying notes while I finished each story. Some of the stories were profound, but some of them almost always involved some horrific accident with someone's genitals on fire. The collection single-handedly spiked up my anxiety so it took me a while to finish, but having finished it, I feel more exhausted than appreciative. The collection went on for too long and it simply did not stop churning out one horror after another.
That said, I still love Palahniuk as a writer. He writes in a voice that is distinctive, versatile and honestly I'm jealous because I want to write and embody all of these people like he does. So I'm grateful for the creepy and uncomfortable experience of fully living inside the heads of these psychotic people.
