This book was first read to me in roughly late elementary school. I reread the book on recommendation and though the prose were well written and the story well-paced, I found much of the characterization and some plot points to be pushing the limits of believability. It was certainly an entertaining book, but at my current reading level I found myself questioning many aspects of the story. And given Charlotte's own warning of high seas tales, I feel that at least it's in line with the story.

I'd recommend the book to younger readers or older readers who just want a well-paced plot and a little mystery and don't mind the historical inaccuracies.
