Grave Peril by Jim Butcher
3.0

So, Book Three. Hm. I'm not sure if I'm not made for Urban Fantasy or if I'm not made for Harry Dresden. :/

Likes: Bob. Thomas. Michael. Murphy. Harry H/C. Finding out a bit more about the Neverever and how this world works.

I really like the Harry H/C. The scene in which he was attacked by the nightmare and woke up terrified and Bob/Mister tried to help him? Buttons pushed! Overall he gets put through the wringer quite often and I really like how Harry just won't give up. ♥ I also like the glimpses of the backstory of Harry. I'm curious about the how/why/when with his Godmother.

I like that Bob is more in the book. For whatever reason I like this ghost and his relationship with Harry.

I very appreciate the short moments with Murphy. I just wish that there would have been more of them.

Thomas is, well, very interesting. I like that neither Harry nor we as a reader know if Thomas is a good, a bad or a guy between good and bad. Also, I'm interested at the backstory Justine hinted at.

Michael - no matter how jarring (and it was very jarring for me) his suddenly popping up in the book was - I like him! I love that he is a friend Harry can count on and that Harry is a friend on whom Michael can count on. Just, Michael, a bit less talking of God would be great. Just saying.

Dislikes: The 1st person POV. All the Vampires. The constant talk about God and how almighty and great he is. Something regarding Susan.

For me the 1st person POV is a touchy thing. If it's done very well - I love it! In the Dresden Files? I don't like it very much. I can't really put my finger on why exactly but it just doesn't work for me. :( I think, I would enjoy this series a lot more if it would have been written in the 3rd person POV. :/

Vampires. Just, Vampires. *enough said*

All this talk about God? At first I thought that I got a different version that somehow was "cleaned up" for Christian readers but now, that was quickly off the table. Just, I have no problem with a character having faith and saying so but Michael's constant talking about God and disapproving Harry's actions because they don't go with his views due to his faith? Just - no.

Susan - originally I thought her storyline great and I was looking forward to discover what happens with her and Harry (yes, she disappeared but you never know) but then I accidently read a Spoiler for "Changes" and if that is true - just no. Major petpeave here.

All in all I like this book more than the second one and I'll read the fourth book but if I'm not majorly hooked by then I'm going to give up on this series. Sorry.
