Black Fall by D.J. Bodden

3.0

Author DJ Bodden has his hands full with the characters he's spawned in this first installation of the Black Year series. While it's clear that this is his first ever novel, (give him applause, that's tough!), and has a bit of a rough beginning, the latter half of the book begins to show off his spectacular action sequences, and will definitely have you at the edge of your page, turning for more!

While the main character, Jonas, is a bit underwhelming, (and very much a teenage boy), the wealth of supporting characters is wonderful. Werewolf kin with mysterious glowing blue eyes? Zombie receptionist who can't talk because her tongue has rotted away? Maybe a Roman Legionnaire Vampire? Or how about a group of ex-military mercenaries looking to blow up some Supernaturals and call it a day?

And Black Fall is an excellent teaser into the greater world surrounding Jonas and his peers. While Jonas' world is busy imploding, the reader is left watching webs of plot take tantalizing shape around him.

I'm highly anticipating what comes next, and can't *wait* to see where DJ Bodden takes us in the rest of the Black Year series!
