A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
5.0

Even after a second read, this book continues to be one of my favorite of all time.
Sure Ove appears to be a curmudgeon, but truthfully in his heart, he could never fully be this way. He has his own way of caring about people. He might even take ‘do unto others’ to a whole extra level, if I’m honest. Ove is short, direct and possibly even sharp when faced with incompetence or idiocy, but he is not cruel. He might pretend like he wants to be…the neighbor’s dog who keeps peeing on his paving stones…but he would never do anything to intentionally harm anyone, including an animal.
When Ove’s wife dies, he thinks he has nothing more to live for and decides that he is going to take his own life to join her, but life has a way of getting in the way of these plans.
His new neighbors move in and they can’t back up a trailer, or fix a stuck window and Ove ends up finding himself smack in the middle of their little family, even teaching a pregnant Iranian woman how to drive.
It’s heartwarming at every turn and Ove seems to be the person that so many need in their lives, and he needs them, too.
I love Ove. I love this story. Have the tissues handy if you’re a cryer. I will never not cry for the love I have for Ove and the sweetness that is this tale. Fredrik Backman is one of my all-time favorite authors and this book was the start of it all for me. Please enjoy this one of a kind gorgeous story of a Man Called Ove. ✨
