This book gets so much hate but it really wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read. It also wasn’t the best. It kind of felt like if acotar and twilight had a baby but like in an incredibly mid way. Poppy isn’t a very compelling FMC. I do like that she’s independent but there are so many inconsistencies in her character. Like how is she so submissive when it comes to the duke but she sneaks off and fights Craven in the middle of the night. She is supposed to be smart but never seems to question anything going on around her? I liked her compassionate nature and I definitely think there’s real character growth potential in the rest of the series. Hawke was a bit more compelling in my opinion. He was unexpected and I grew to like him. I did find the whole book extremely predictable (seriously there was very little in the end that I hadn’t predicted) but I enjoyed the world no less. This book was also slower than I would have liked, over all, didn’t hate it, didn’t love it.
