Henry and the Clubhouse by Tracy Dockray, Beverly Cleary

4.0

This book is tough to review. It had some of the funniest, most memorable scenes we've experienced in the Henry Huggins books, from "Harry Higgins" to Sheriff Bud to Henry riding in a bathtub down the street. Unfortunately, it also had this constant refrain of "no girls allowed" due to the clubhouse saga (for which Henry never really makes up for his failure to stick up for Beezus) and a gross Halloween where Henry dresses up as a crummy caricature of an indigenous person. I know this was common for the time, the casual sexism and racism, but it tainted an otherwise extremely fun book.
