Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

5.0

This was a brilliant story and an intense read.
It was interesting to follow Ender’s intellectual growth, to share in his mental and emotional struggles, to experience his unique ways of approaching puzzles and problems. It was difficult for me to reconcile the very young ages of these genius children with their gifted abilities. Every time age was mentioned, I stumbled over my conceptions of normal elementary-school children compared to these military prodigies. It was easier to imagine young adults in training rather than children. To picture a six-year-old in command of armed forces was bewildering! It wasn’t such a stretch to imagine that age group as impressive with video-gaming however, which turned out to be a huge part of the “games” that trained these kids for war.
I love stories with an unexpected twist, and this one delivered.
