Whew. This dark and steamy retelling of Beauty and the Beast is exactly that — emphasis on steamy. I think this book goes for the shock factor quite a lot, especially with background characters that act as foils for our main character’s star-crossed  and allegedly love doomed love affair. I do enjoy the banter between Finley and Nyfrain as well as the banter between Finley and her animal. Finley is pretty funny and adds a lot of levity to scenes with her creative swearing and brash attitude. However, I do agree with other reviewers that this book can feel a little cringey at times. It’s definitely one of the better fantasy romance series I’ve read in terms of writing, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best. I’ll probably stick with the series because I’m invested in the characters, but I’ll only recommend it to people who are really into romantic fantasy. I don’t think this book is for people who are there for the plot…
