From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley, Riley Keough

dark emotional reflective sad

5.0

A surreal life of tragedy. This memoir felt like a gut punch. Grief, sorrow, living with addiction, and being lost amidst your own story.

As Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter Riley Keough mentioned, her mother’s recordings were intended to be a way of healing through trauma. So, all of those beautiful, sunny times were paved over to deal with the harsher elements. I think this is important to keep in mind while reading, as the pain is hard to bear, even as a reader.

I think this book particularly shone on audio, with Riley narrating parts, Julia Roberts others, and Lisa Marie’s audio tapes—it made the book come alive and increased the impact.
