The Naturals
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
3 stars.
The premise is intriguing!
A bunch of teens with natural talents for profiling, lies, emotions, and statistics get recruited by the FBI to solve cold cases.
The characters were likable. A bit of drama from the love triangle that made me roll my eyes but liked it all the same.
But the climax really fell flat for me. After all that build-up and intriguing potential, the big reveal and resolution just felt... well, lame is the word I'd use.
It didn't have the punch or the cleverness I was expecting, and it left me feeling a bit deflated. It's a shame because the journey leading up to it had me pretty engaged.
Tl;dr:
Great concept, engaging characters, but the payoff just didn't deliver the thrill I was hoping for.
