The Risk by Elle Kennedy

1.5

After meeting Brenna in book 1 of this series, I was looking forward to this book as I really enjoyed her snarky confidence and sarcastic personality in Summers book and expected more of the same... unfortunately, this book gave me nothing. It was bland. Neither Brenna nor Jake were particularly interesting or layered as characters, and considering this is touted as a fake dating, enemies to lovers there was no enemy-ing to be seen. I personally didn't feel the chemistry between them, and it took FAR too long to get to Brenna opening up about her past. The story just dragged, and the fake dating aspect was completely missing. The drama between Brenna and her dad, Hollis & Rupi's storyline and the Hazel thing added nothing and felt like an attempt to try and shoehorn some drama into the plot. This just didn't work for me. Nothing about this story was memorable, and I'm left feeling indifferent about it. 🤷‍♀️ 🌶
