The Realm of Possibility by David Levithan

4.0

4.5 stars rounded to 4!

This book wrung my heart out like a sponge. It took me through the whole range of emotions. It's such a beautiful, emotional boook, and it's unlike any book I've ever read in both style and structure. All of these separate threads wove together in such unforeseeable ways.

I can't even bring myself to call the people in the book characters because they really just DON'T feel like characters! They feel like real people.

This book lost half a star for me because there are two lines in it that are problematic, one that is severely transphobic and one that is moderately racist, specifically against Chinese/East Asian people. I looked through a ton of negative reviews and didn't see anyone else mention it. Although that could be because this book is from 2004 and in 2004 many people wouldn't have picked up on those issues.

Also, while I grew to love the unique structure and set-up of this book it did take some adjusting to. It was particularly tricky for me because I do have memory problems. But ultimately I ended up really enjoying it!
