Aestus: Book 1: The City hooks the reader from the beginning, with a post-apocalyptic feel that carries throughout the novel. Atwell creates a believable world by building off the very real issue of climate change, with a scorching Earth and limited resources. The characters and their personalities are established quickly. At times the protagonist appears to have too many personal connections with others but the plot progresses well and at a good pace. Aestus: Book 1: The City is a gripping science fiction read.
