I liked parts of this, but there were so many other parts that I found unnecessary/over-the-top and I only found one character to be slightly likable. the formatting/way this was told was interesting though.
- why was there so much sex/masturbation in this? like I understand the parts in relation to the victims, but the rest seemed so over-the-top and like it was only being done for shock value.
- why was there a friends to lovers romance subplot??? It felt so weird and fake. It made the whole novel feel more cheap and like a lifetime movie.
- the graphic depiction of rape between the two of the main characters seemed so unnecessary. we already know that he is a bad person based on a slew of other things he has done, and the inclusion of so many details from the victim's perspective just seemed like the author was trying to shock or disgust people. it was not a main plot point and did not really add anything to the story. in the end it just felt like they put it in there for the female main character to suffer more and to shock the reader.
- I felt like the parts about the male main characters mom were slightly ignored and not really explored considering how crazy all of that became. we finally find out what happened to her and his grandma, but nothing really comes from it
this is one of the first horror books I've read that was written by a woman but felt like it was written by a man. I had to check a few times to make sure it was correct.
