Velvet Was the Night
by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
I was really looking forward to this book. From the synopsis I was expecting a fast paced novel, laced with intrigue and romance, set in Mexico City of the 1970s.
While I really enjoyed the social and historical context, I had trouble connecting with the story.
The pacing felt too slow for me, the narration started picking up only halfway through the book, and I had major difficulties connecting with the characters.
A bit disappointing and not memorable read. It is the first book I read by this author, but given the glowing recommendations I have seen around, I will definitely try to read some other of her works.
