Man Down by Kate Meader

I don’t usually like widower tropes especially when they’re incredibly sad and tragic and the widower is obviously still not past the tragedy and still very much in love with his spouse.

That being said, I thought this was a well done take on that trope. Fair warning, it is incredibly sad and you will probably cry especially during flashbacks.

Our heroine does provide a little relief from the heaviness, but she has her own issues as well.

One of my main issues with this trope is when ‘well-meaning’ friends and family try to pressure the widow/er into moving on. I don’t like nosey or meddling friends/family in any circumstances though. I don’t like it in real life so it annoys me in books too. I get it for plot progression, but ugh.

Anyway, this doesn’t have too much of that so that was a good thing.

I just think the author did a good job handling this subject matter, she was respectful while also able to capture the budding romance and relationship development.
