Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

3.0

I enjoyed reading Secrets of a Summer Night. It was so nice to see their growing friendship and the part where they discussed what they were looking for in their future partners had me giggling knowing who their partners will be in the future.

I know most readers were annoyed with Annabelle but I actually quite liked her here. I would feel the same way if someone offered me to become his mistress and that was what Simon did in the beginning.

Simon grew on me as the story progressed. I love their dinner date, the chess game and Simon saving her and gifting her with ankle boots.

With that said, I felt disappointed with how LK handled the second part of the story after Simon and Annabelle were married. I enjoyed Simon chasing Annabelle during the first half of the book but in the final part, there was a lack of development in terms of romance. A big chunk of the final chapters were mostly information overload and while I enjoy reading about history in my HR novels, I felt bored while reading it. Towards the end, I felt like the plot revolved more on Annabelle’s family woes and Simon throwing money to sort it all out. In a way, I felt it took away from telling the love story of Simon and Annabelle.
