Echo
by Pam Muñoz Ryan
WONDERFUL. In that, this book is full of wonder. I was immediately entranced by the fairy tale opening (accompanied by "mirdinara's" stunning art.)
The characters' perspectives were varied, spaced around issues so that I felt the impact of WWII in a simple, relatable way. I look forward to sharing this with my children once they've studied a little more history.
I agree that the ending felt a little rushed, but it was actually a surprise to me how it all wrapped up so nicely. For this book, I felt it was appropriate, though I could have used a little more.
The writing was masterful, a perfect voice for a fairy tale intersecting with history.
And the music! Echo had such heart there. Yes, a bit cheesy, but perfect for this type of story. Cannot recommend it enough for older children and adult children as well.
