The Husbands by Holly Gramazio
5.0
This is a bonkers book that I loved beginning to end. Once you just embrace the plot (a woman named Lauren has a attic that keeps replacing itself with new husbands for her) the whole book is just so so good. I loved it. I loved Lauren and how messy she gets and manages to pull herself back together, her friendship with Bohai, her plant "buddy", and just everything. The ending was pitch perfect.
"The Husbands" starts with Lauren returning to her flat from her best friend's hen night to a man she does not know living there and saying he is her husband. Only problem is that Lauren is not married. She left her flat single and came home married. She doesn't know what to do and is shocked to find evidence of their marriage. But when he goes into their attic to obtain something, a different man comes down. Lauren quickly finds out that her life proceeds as normal, but in parallel worlds, and in each world she is now married and starts to quickly shift through the "husbands".
Lauren is great. She's a little messy and then a lot messy depending on what world she is in. When she meets someone else that knows about the whole parallel world thing, the book becomes so funny that I would have loved more of that to continue if possible. You get to know different versions of Lauren, her sister, her mother (she's a mess no matter the world I think) her neighbors.
The setting of the book is London, but as I said, parallel worlds. Things don't change that much no matter the world except with jobs, money, etc. Things stay pretty straight forward except for magic attic and all of that.
The ending was really good. I don't know if I would have chose like Lauren did, but I thought that Gramazio did a nice job.
