I struggled with how to rate book 5 of The Edens as the mystery/Romantic Suspense aspect of it was one of the more interesting ones I've read by this author, even though I called what had actually happened about an hour into the book while chatting back and forth with the friend I'm buddy reading this series with. But that is just how my brain works.

The romance however fell utterly flat, Lyla & Vance gave me absolutely nothing to connect with, it was far too insta lust/love for me and there just wasn't any chemistry or tangible reason other than physical attraction for them to feel the way they felt for each other. Instead of Lyla & Vance having the hard/difficult conversations and opening up to each other to form an emotional bond, the spice in this book was used as a crutch when they should have been forming a deep and meaningful connection through interactions outside of just sex but didn't.

I loved the snippets/scenes we got with the whole Eden clan. Those family moments really warm my heart and make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Cromac was such an intriguing and interesting character. I wish we had gotten more from him! I just didn't connect with Lyla & Vance like I have other couples from this series. It all just felt very surface level between them, but I did enjoy the book overall. Lucy Rivers & Connor Crais performances were a joy to listen to as always. They are two of my favourite narrators for a reason. 🌶.5
