This had been on my to read shelf for a very long time. In the Scarlet Letter, a single incident of adultery has unforeseen consequences that affect four people. How each character responds to the situation determines his or her physical and mental outcome in the story. A classic with true character development.Hawthorne shows us how superficial impressions give us false portrayals of how life truly becomes as individuals in a "caring" society suddenly turn against one such individual in the moments of their greatest needs.
